What does home mean to you?
Home matters to us all in different ways. So in February this year, we commissioned UC Berkeley researcher, to help us explore the different ways home and it’s many meanings matter to America.
We asked thousands of people from 22 states across the U.S. to tell us, in their own words, what home means to them.
This is just a snapshot of some of the fascinating things people told us.
“My home is my respite from the world. I’m very social, but I need time to myself and my apartment offers a comfortable place to relax and let my guard down.” – Allyson, Texas
“It means a place where I don’t have to keep up my walls, it does that for me. I get to fall apart. With my dog and cat.” – Emily, California
“It’s the place I’ve lived in the longest, in my adult life, so it feels the most like home to me. However, if and when I have to move, I will create home in the new place.” – Ben, New York
“It’s a place of safety and rest for our family. It’s a source of pride and the result of hard work.” – Anandh, Illinois
“At the moment, stressful because my roommates ignore me and my requests to keep things cleaner!” – Patricia, California
